Biography
Dr. Nicanor G. Tiongson is professor emeritus of the U.P. Film Institute and former dean of the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines Diliman. He served as artistic director and vice president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He is a founding member and former chair of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino. He has published pioneering studies in Philippine film and theater. Among his film books are The Cinema of Manuel Conde and the four volumes of The Urian Anthology, which collect the film articles, reviews and interviews of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino from 1970 to 2009. He has also authored The Women of Malolos and edited the ten-volume CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art. He has written plays like Pilipinas Circa 1907, Basiila ng Malolos, Noli at Fili Dekada 2000, and Mabining Mandirigma.
